PATENTED STIRRUP DESIGNBuilt-in Dupont Surlyn® stirrup is anatomically placed anterior to the malleolus, cradles and metatarsal joint, and runs anterior to the lateral malleolus as well. The stirrup cradles the midfoot bilaterally, supporting the ankle's subtalar and talocrural joints by first supporting and controlling the midtarsal joint of the foot. The Tarsal Lok maintains the anatomic position of the Surlyn stirrup throughout all motions of the foot and ankle without allowing it to migrate away from its intended position. The Tarsal Lok is therefore able to help stabilize the ankle with the foot in a variety of positions, including the vulnerable plantar flexed position.
EXCLUSIVE "POSITIONING" DESIGNThe biomechanical design and placement of the Surlyn stirrup within the lace-up brace allows it to piston up and down with the different foot and ankle movements to ensure comfort, despite the stirrup's close relationship to the surface anatomy. Downward pistoning is limited by a webbing stop through the Surlyn stirrup on each side of the brace to prevent excessive inversion and eversion movements of the ankle, while still allowing functional movement to occur.
DUPONT SURLYN® STIRRUPDue to the unique thermalresponsive Surlyn material, the stirrup will actually form to the shape of the user's ankle and foot simply after wearing the Tarsal Lok a few times. This helps achievea more custom fit and provides better control of the ankle. The Tarsal Lok may also be worn over an orthotic due to the brace's low profile design.
HIGH TECH CONSTRUCTIONThe Tarsal Lok is constructed with an anatomically placed Dupont Surlyn stirrup positioned within two high tech fabrics. The outer brace is contructed of Poly-Tex, a nylon backed polyeurethane-coated fabric that is abrasion resistant and extremely durable. The inner brace is constructed of ballistic nylon with internal laminted foam that provides both strength and comfort.
LOW PROFILE DESIGNBecause the majority of support is provided by the shape and placement of the Surlyn stirrup, the Tarsal Lok does not need the excessive material around the heel or foot normally found in other lace-up ankle braces. The trimmed-down Tarsal Lok achieves a better feel and more comfort without loss of support. The low profile design makes the Tarsal Lok an ideal brace for a variety of applications, including sports like soccer, basketball and football. It is also an ideal brace for everyday use because it will fit comfortably inside almost any shoe style.
Attention Footy Players - The lower profile design, and shortened span across the top of the foot means the Swede-O Tarsal Lok will have much less affect on your 'sweet spot' when kicking the ball.
