Formthotic Heat Mouldable Orthotics
Formthotics are a non-rigid orthosis, manufactured from a unique type of closed cell, cross-linked, thermoforming polyethlene (PE) foam. Formthotics are designed to replicate the effects of the body walking barefoot on natural soft surfaces such as sand or soft earth. When the body is supported properly, it is allowed to function in the way it was designed to, in response to a cushioning surface-an environment that Formthotics replicate, right inside your patient's footwear.
Formthotics are not "premoulded" but come in a "blank" form ready for you to individualise to your patient's feet, right in their own footwear, in a matter of minutes.
The Formthotics medical range features several different density models. This allows you to easily match the correct model Formthotic to suit your patient's foot pathology, body weight and usage. Each density is a different colour to make selection easy.

Burgundy (Light Density): A soft, accommodative orthotic. Provides mild functional support while correct biomechanical position maintained. Suitable for diabetics, arthritics, elderly patients or those with sensitive feet. Not suitable for large people with heavy frames, however for these people Dual Density is a good option. |

Red (High Density): Hard, semi-rigid orthotic support.
Where greater biomechanical control required, where orthotic is subject to high repetitive
impact or where excessive or abnormal shoe wear normally occurs. Also suitable for
those patient's that can tolerate a harder base of support. |

Blue (Firm Density): The most widely used density, Blue Formthotics provide firm, flexible orthotic support allowing effective use in a broad spectrum of application. Suitable for use in the treatment of heel pain, knee pain, shin splints and Achilles tendon injuries. Provides biomechanical control, good functional support and stabilisation of the foot and lower limb. |

Dual Density (Blue/Red): Combines a layer of
low density Polyethylene foam (light red) over a firm, functional blue
base. Suitable where additional cushioning required without compromising
stability or functional control e.g plantar fascia problems, tibial stress,
diabetics and arthritics. Allows for better tolerance and patient acceptance
of orthosis. Good for use in multi-directional sports such as tennis
or basketball to reduce forefoot pivoting irritation. |

Low Profile (Dual Density): A firm, flexible half length
orthotic finishing at the met heads. Can be used in the same situations as blue
and dual density Formthotics, however is specifically designed where limited
room in the shoe restricts use of full length orthosis. |
Sizing
Fitting Instructions
Follow 6 simple steps:
| 1. SELECT THE CORRECT MODEL (eg FFR - Full Red) |

| 2. SELECT THE CORRECT SIZE If possible, remove existing innersole from shoe and use as a guide for correct length. If in doubt, always choose a larger size, excess length can be trimmed from the front of the Formthotic. Take care not to overtrim allowing a margin of 5mm extra at the front of the Formthotic. Do not trim, cut or alter the arch flare or back of Formthotic. |

| 3. FIT THE FORMTHOTIC INTO THE SHOE Ensure the front of the Formthotic fits snugly into the toe end of the shoe. Heel cup should be positioned under the patient's heel. |

| 4. HEAT THE FORMTHOTICS IN THE SHOE 1. Use the Formthotic Heating Machine. Place the shoes over the heating outlets, with front of shoes pointing forward. Press the appropriate density button to start. Heating is completed when machine cycle finishes. This takes approximately 60 - 90 seconds. 2. Alternatively, a blow hair dryer or hot air gun works well. Carefully direct the heat at the Formthotic. Alternate from shoe to shoe for approximately 3 - 4 minutes until the foam material feels pliable and soft. You can feel the material softening by pressing the back of the Formthotic with your finger. |

| 5. FIT THE FORMTHOTICS TO YOUR PATIENTS FEET While patient is seated, place shoes on patient's feet and ensure shoes are done up firmly. Then, help mould the Formthotics up about the foot and heel with your hands. Have the patient stand up with feet parallel and legs hip width apart. Weight should tend toward the outside borders of the feet. Get patient to bend knees slightly and allow feet to pronate to neutral position so that the kneecap is aligned above the third toe. Hold position for 1 minute or until the Formthotics has cooled. |

| 6. CHECK THE FINISHED FORMTHOTIC Take the Formthotics out of the shoes. Make sure the Formthotic is properly formed and that there are no creases or wrinkles.Check the heel was properly centred during fitting. Excess material may be trimmed from the front if required. If you are not satisfied with the shape obtained, simply repeat the fitting process, altering the Formthotics as required. Formthotics can also be modified and posted to suit your patient. (see Formthotic Modifications). |
