Detect Lymphoedema Earlier with Imp XCA

Lymphoedema develops slowly over time. It is recognised that earlier diagnosis, leading to earlier intervantion, is the best management strategy for this condition. The IMP XCA is designed for improving the earlier detection and monitoring of changes in extra cellular fluid levels for patients with unilateral lymphoedema of the arms.

The Imp XCAis a bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) device, specifically designed for the accurate monitoring of extra cellular fluid levels in the arms. The instrument measures impedance and phase angle of the unaffected body limbs in subjectswho have secondary lymphoedema. These measurements are then used to calculate the Lymphoedema ratio and the volume difference between limbs. Impedimed provides Lymphoedema analysis software for storing subject details and data points for reports that can display results graphically over time (eg % change in ratio from baseline).

Validation

Prior to its release, methods of assessing lymphoedematous limbs included circumferential measurments of limb size and water immersion. Both these methods fail to produce results reflecting the hydrostatus of the limb. Thus, there was no good reference method for the precise quantification of peripheral lymphoedema. The bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) technique has, however, been demonstrated to be approximately four-fold more sensitive than the commonly used circumferential method for assessing the onset of lymphoedema.
