The Soffban Procel Waterproff Cast Liner is a breathable, washable cast liner used in place of a cotton or synthetic padding, or stockinette.

Its application is straightforward, but distinctly different from those of other undercast paddings. Please use this guide to make sure your patients get the full benefit of the comfort and convenience of Soffban Procel.

This guide also explains the use of De-flex cut resistant strip and Zip Stick, both of which simplify cast removal.

CAST LINER APPLICATION
Wrap the liner around the limb in spirals overlapping at least 50%. Make sure the adhesive side is away from the skin, and do not wrap too tightly. do not worry about slight puckering of wrinkling. extra layers will make cast removal easier, but increase drying time.

To form cuffs, extend the liner past the anticipated edge of the casting tape by at least 2.5cm. When no cuffing is needed, extend the liner 1.25cm past that edge. Extra layers ashould be added to the edges for comfort and protection from the edges of the casting tape.
ADDITIONAL PADDING
Extra Soffban Procel Waterproof Cast Liner material can be placed over bony prominences if required. Extra layers should be applied adhesive side to adhesive side.

Folded strips of liner can be used in the web space of the hand.
CUFF ENDS
Use scissors to cut two strips 2.5cm long, 180° apart at each cast margin. Roll the cast liner over over on itself to form a cuff. When the synthetic bandage is applied, secure

When cuffing is not preferred, simply cut two pieces of cast liner, of the appropriate length, and fold one-third of the liner back on itself. Place the pieces around the distal and proximal ends to serve in place of cuffs.
APPLICATION OF DE-FLEX STRIP
De-flex Strip is a cut-resistant strip used to simplify cast removal. Apply it directly to that part of the padding where cutting is likely. The strip should be in contact with the skin. Extend it past the expected edge of the cast and cut it with the ends showing so its path can be followed as the cast is cut off. Apply the synthetic bandage as normal.
ANKLE APPLICATION
Start rolling ditally and work proximally, overlapping at least 50%. You may use a figure-of-eight around the ankle.

To finish the ankle and calcaneal region, cut the cast liner into pieces long enough to cover medial and lateral

A posterior calcaneal piece of the correct length will be needed to provide adequate padding. Press slightly to secure. Additional pieces of cast liner may be added as extra padding. Cuffs or additional padding should be placed at the distal and proximal ends of the cast. (See steps five and six)

Do not place the De-flex Strip over the prominent areas of the ankle. During cast removal, use the cast spreaders frequently to make sure you are cutting over the strip

Cast Removal
Soffban Procel Waterproof Cast Liner is less resistant to cut-through than synthetic padding, so it is important to use the cast sawwith a light touch. If De-flex Strip has been used, find the ends and cut along the path of the underlying strip. Use a cast spreader to make sure you are cutting over the strip.

Pry the cast apart with cast spreaders and pull the De-flex Strip out of the cast. Use scissors to cut throught the cast liner.

If no De-flex Strip has been used, gently slide a Zip Stick between the patient's skin and the cast liner along the cutting line to remove the cast.

Note: Do not use sockinette or any other padding with Soffban Procel waterproof cast Liner. Read the instructions for use of Soffban Procel Waterproof Cast Liner and De-flex Strip before applying the cast. Scissors may be needed, because Soffban Procel Waterproof Cast Liner does not tear easily.
